Wayne Sales is an Operating Partner at Butterfly and focuses primarily on the food distribution and foodservice sectors, and currently serves on the board of directors of Bolthouse Farms and Modern Restaurant Concepts. He has over 40 years of experience in food retail, distribution and franchising, including senior leadership positions with Canadian Tire, SuperValu and Tim Hortons, among others.
Prior to joining Butterfly, Mr. Sales was Chairman of the board of directors, President and CEO of SuperValu from 2012 to 2013 (and served on its board of directors from 2006 - 2017), where he helped restructure and reposition the company and its capital structure, ultimately completing its $3.3 billion sale to Cerberus in 2013. Previously, Mr. Sales was President and CEO of Canadian Tire from 2000 to 2006, where he led the development and implementation of various transformational strategies to reposition the company against competition. Mr. Sales’ efforts helped revitalize Canadian Tire and led to meaningful retail sales increases. Mr. Sales also served on the board of directors of Tim Hortons Inc. from 2006 to 2014, where he oversaw the company through its sale to Restaurant Brands International and 3G Capital in 2014.
In addition to Bolthouse Farms and Modern Restaurant Concepts, Mr. Sales currently serves on the board of directors of Mills Fleet Farm and the Dream Centers of Michigan. He previously served on the board of directors of Albertsons, Axiall Corporation, Discovery Air and SuperValu, among others.
